Budget 2025 planning is underway, and we want you to have your say

Work has started on the City of Burlington’s 2025 budget. Earlier this summer, through my Budget 2025 Mayoral Decision, I provided the City with direction that any proposed changes to budget (increases or decreases) are done in accordance with the following four principles that balance providing for today while preparing for our future:

  • Affordability

  • Livability

  • Sustainability

  • Transparency

As part of our planning process and commitment to transparency, we want to better understand your priorities and the value you place on City services. You have asked for a simpler, easier to track and understand presentation of the budget. As part of my Budget 2025 Mayoral Decision, I have also asked staff to prepare budget summaries for each department by September 13, 2024 so you have access to information relating to department revenues, expenses, and the proposed change in total budget for each department.

We want you to have your say throughout the budget process

We are making sure the budget material is presented in a way that is understandable and gives you flexible and accessible ways to get involved.Below is a list of online and in-person opportunities for you to share your feedback, and ask questions about the 2025 budget:

I'm continuing my Community Drop-In Sessions this fall, visiting various locations across the city to meet and chat with you about what's important to you as a resident of Burlington. On Wednesday, Sept. 25 between 1- 3 p.m., I’ll be at IKEA on Plains Rd E. Details here: Community Drop In

Budget Telephone Town Hall

Residents can join the call starting at 7 p.m. to ask questions about the 2025 proposed budget. The telephone town will be hosted by myself and run until 8:30 p.m. Visit getinvolvedburlington.ca/2025budget

Our budget process has always been subject to revisions and amendments by members of City council, and public input. For further Council and Committee key dates, visit getinvolvedburlington.ca/2025budget

We know that our budget must provide for present needs while preparing for our future. We can’t postpone investments today and send future generations the bill. All our decisions must have an eye both to affordability for the present and sustainability for the future. I encourage everyone in our community to participate in the budget process and provide their feedback. I look forward to connecting over the coming weeks.
