Burlington Council Unanimously Supports Mayor's Renomination to AMO’s Large Urban Caucus Board of Directors
At our May 21 meeting, Burlington Council unanimously approved a motion memo from Councillor Kelvin Galbraith requesting Council once again nominate the Mayor to sit on the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Board - Large Urban Caucus.See the approved full motion from Council, My Take, and the associated motion memorandum from Ward 1 Councillor Kelvin Galbraith — as well as additional background information further down this post.
APPROVED MOTION:
- Be it resolved that the Council for the City of Burlington nominate Mayor Marianne Meed Ward for the position of Director on Large Urban Caucus on the AMO Board of Directors for the 2024-2026 term.
MY TAKE:Thank you to my Council colleagues for their unanimous support on my renomination to AMO’s Large Urban Caucus Board of Directors. We’ve seen firsthand the benefits and effectiveness of having Burlington’s voice at as many tables as possible and I hope to continue that work through this position. Elections to the board will take place at the annual AMO conference in August.

BACKGROUND:Mayor Meed Ward has been an active member of the AMO Board of Directors for the past three years. She has shown success advocating for Burlington and municipalities across Ontario through her AMO position, as well as the Chair of the Ontario Big City Mayor’s Caucus, to advance strategic municipal priorities with the provincial and federal governments.Mayor Meed Ward has raised specific and important objectives through relevant resolutions at AMO with the passage of motions on 1) Codes of Conduct for municipally elected leaders and 2) Municipal Fiscal Review to call for a new financial framework for cities across Ontario.
