Burlington Mayor's Speaker Series 'Innovation to Action' Successfully Launches to Near Full House at BPAC
What a wonderful evening and launch! We had a near full house at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre for the inaugural event of my new Mayor's Speaker Series 'Innovation to Action', co-presented by Councillor Kelvin Galbraith.More than 500 people came out to hear renowned urban planner Jennifer Keesmaat speak to housing, community development and growth -- and about how we can turn the dream of affordable housing ownership and rental into reality. Thank you to Jennifer for providing an engaging and captivating presentation for the audience.Thank you to Councillor Galbraith for co-presenting our inaugural event, and Burlington CAO Hassaan Basit, and Councillors Paul Sharman and Angelo Bentivegna for attending. A big thank you to all of our sponsors for helping us make last night possible and free to the public -- Kirin Air Systems Inc., Burlington Hydro and Mohawk College -- as well as to all of our tradeshow housing partners, including Home Suite Hope, West End Home Builders Association, Indwell, Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin, Halton Region Planning staff, City's Environmental Sustainability and Planning staff.Lastly, thank to you everyone in the community who attended last night and took part in this important discussion affecting our city, province and country. We learned about the importance of tenacity, partnerships and ensuring city council, staff and our community are aligned to see success in delivering on our shared goals of affordable housing for everyone at all ages and stages of life. The conversation will continue as we think about how to turn the ideas we heard into action for a made-in-Burlington response to the housing crisis. Please get in touch to share your thoughts on the ideas presented at mayor@burlington.caIf your missed the event, you can watch a recording of it here: vimeo.com; and view a copy of the presentation below:
