Investing in your City: Upgrades to Community Centres, Arenas & Amenities

Our weekly "Investing in your City" series continues, highlighting  some of the significant investments being made in Burlington and that our community will benefit from.

Previous posts in our "Investing in your City" series have already highlighted investments in the new Robert Bateman Community Centre and the enhanced and updated Skyway Community Centre and Arena. The City of Burlington is also investing in renovations and upgrades to our current community centres, arenas and amenities.COMMUNITY CENTRES:

  • Nelson Recreation Centre -- original building domestic hot water boiler and storage tank renewal, arena boards renewal, natural gas refill unit renewal, concrete base for arena compressors rebuild, customer service split AC unit and interior spot painting;
  • Mountainside Recreation Centre -- replacement to LED of  two (2) high pressure sodium exterior lights, and pool boiler circulation pumps;
  • Tansley Woods Community Centre -- pool sand filter media change and related piping repairs and replacements;
  • Brant Hills Community Centre and Burlington Seniors Centre -- roof section replacement projects; and
  • Robert Bateman Community Centre, Orchard Hub Community Centre and Sherwood Community Centre Facility -- infrastructure renewal/enhancements.

ARENAS:

  • Appleby Arena - rooftop unit replacement, sport flooring replacement, ice-making equipment (various equipment renewals), and Zamboni Gate Repairs;
  • Aldershot Arena - installation of new refrigeration room, access stairs and IT equipment relocation, and beam repairs and painting;
  • Central Arena - split AC replacement;
  • Mainway Arena - auditorium and kitchen flooring replacement, and overhead door and siding repairs; and
  • All Arenas - general facility painting, and equipment repair and maintenance.

AMENITIES:

  • General infrastructure repairs -- LaSalle Pavilion, Paletta Mansion, Tyandaga Golf proshop and clubhouse, and Waterfront Centre;
  • Pool facilities general infrastructure repairs
    • Angela Coughlan Pool -- pool lane reels, lane markers and spa pool pump renewal;
    • Aldershot Pool -- custodial sink replacement; and
    • LaSalle Wading Pool;
  • Park building repairs
    • Beachway -- changeroom/exterior showers and ceramic tile wall of outdoor showers, water refill/fountain station renewals, washroom maintenance, and water heater, and emergency lighting wall pack unit renewal;
    • Central Park -- washrooms maintenance, roof replacement;
    • Hidden Valley Park -- washroom maintenance,  site painting, and office and restrooms vinyl tile renewal;
    • Ireland Park -- general maintenance, office and restroom vinyl tile renewal;
    • Lowville Park Pavillion -- washroom maintenance, CO2 monitoring/alarm system renewal;
    • Nelson Park -- north washroom building maintenance, interior/exterior/emergency lighting, electrical systems, and shower exhaust fan system renewal;
    • Orchard Park -- washroom building maintenance, asphalt driveway and chain link fence renewal;
    • Lowville Park -- building maintenance, exterior doors system repairs; and
    • Walkers Line Stormwater Building -- general maintenance;
  • Energy conservation initiatives --  interval metering installations at Burlington Transit natural gas, electrical and water submetering systems, implementation of measures from sustainable/energy audits, planning and installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and deep energy retrofit studies and implementation; and
  • Cemetery repair and renewal -- Greenwood and Pioneer Cemeteries (monument repairs and renewals, and irrigation needs).

DID YOU KNOW?The Appleby Hub at the Appleby Ice Centre, 1201 Appleby Line, is the newest Community Hub in Burlington!
