Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: Jan. 8-14, 2024
Good morning, Burlington -- and Happy New Year!I hope you all were able to take some time over the holidays and spend them with your loved ones. Burlington City Council is back at it with our first Standing Committee week of 2024 -- our Committee of the Whole meeting starts today at 9:30 a.m.You may have noticed that committee will run a bit differently this year in an effort to help streamline Council business.Our previous three standing committees -- Corporate Services, Strategy, Risk & Accountability (CSSRA), Environment, Infrastructure & Community Services (EICS), and Community Planning, Regulation & Mobility (CPRM) -- have been combined into a single Committee of the Whole for this year. The agenda is divided with items grouped under our previous committee names that match the titles of the Executive Directors on City staff who oversee those departments.I will open the meeting, oversee any delegations, complete all consent items, and then pass the gavel to Chairs who will chair segments of the meeting related to:
- Corporate Services, Strategy, Risk and Accountability.
- Community Planning Regulation and Mobility; and
- Environment Infrastructure and Community Services
Please see below a breakdown of this year's chairs and vice-chairs for these segments:
- For CSSRA regular items at Committee of the Whole: Ward 3 Councillor Rory Nisan (chair), and Ward 4 Councillor Shawna Stolte (vice-chair);
- For EICS regular items at Committee of the Whole: Ward 2 Councillor Lisa Kearns (chair), and Ward 1 Councillor Kelvin Galbraith (vice-chair); and
- For CPRM regular items at Committee of the Whole: Ward 4 Councillor Shawna Stolte (chair), and Ward 2 Councillor Lisa Kearns (vice-chair).
