Statement from the Mayor of Burlington — May 29, 2025
I am deeply disturbed and saddened by the recent incident circulating on Facebook involving an act of anti-Black racism that occurred in our community.
What occurred is unacceptable and stands in direct opposition to the values we uphold as a city—dignity, respect, and the fundamental right of every individual to feel safe and welcome in their community, regardless of race.
To those directly impacted, I want you to know that we see you, we hear you, and we stand with you. We recognize the pain and trauma that these incidents cause, not only to individuals but to entire communities.
Racism—whether overt or subtle—harms us all.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
City of Burlington
