AMO 2020 Virtual Conference: New Board Members Elected, Acclaimed for 2-Year Term

This year's annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference went virtual due to COVID-19, running from Monday, Aug. 17-Wednesday, Aug. 19.As a result, we were still able to carry on with the unique opportunities afforded at the conference that lets us learn from each other, share our experiences and serve our communities well through: delegation meetings with Provincial ministers; and sessions and forums on a various of municipal issues (such as a municipality’s role in climate change, building meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples in your community and early lessons learned from municipal front lines in our COVID-19 initial response).Another aspect of the conference is electing a new AMO board that includes a president, past-president, secretary-treasurer, past-secretary treasurer, a representative of Association Française des Municipalités de l'Ontario (AFMO), and six caucus, including: County; Large Urban; North; Regional and Single-Tier; Rural; and Small Urban.Right before the conference, I learned I was acclaimed to the Large Urban Caucus of the AMO board for the next two years and will serve as a representative for the City of Burlington with the support of City Council.I believe the voices of Ontario’s municipalities are strongest when we are united and I’ve seen the impact we have when we come together on behalf of our communities.
