Apply for a board from the Spencer Smith Park willow tree
The city is accepting applications from residents who would like a piece of planed board wood from the Spencer Smith Park willow tree. Two Burlington companies donated their time and machinery to prepare the Spencer Smith willow wood for a new use. Arborwood Tree Service Inc. and Exotic Woods planed, milled and kiln-dried the wood from six large logs to make boards that can form a table, chairs or other furniture.Their size is approximately:
- 10 feet x 27 inches x 3 inches (4 boards)
- 6 feet x 27 inches x 3 inches (13 boards)
There are a limited number of pieces available, so we are trying to ensure the wood goes to people who can create something with it. Residents are asked to complete the following application form indicating either your own ability to create something from the wood, or a quote from a contractor who will do the work. FormDeadline is Sept. 8. The boards will be distributed by the end of September.Saplings and smaller chunks of wood have already been distributed within the community. The city has retained several large "cookies" or cross sections to create a timeline display that will be installed in the park or elsewhere in the city. More information about the wood is available here: Spencer Smith WillowsMy Take: I'm delighted the Spencer Smith Willows will live on in a variety of ways in our community. A special thanks to the local companies who donated considerable time and cost to making usuable pieces out of the wood.
