Approved at council May 9: Cycling options on New St, pop-up patios, parking partnerships, older adult tax deferral, Lakeshore Rd work

The following items were approved at committee meetings in April and will come to City Council May 9 6:30pm for final approval. Residents can attend and speak by registering in advance: Register as a delegation:

1. Recommendations to make pop-up patios permanent were approved by the Development and Infrastructure Committee April 19. Up to 10 patios will be permitted, from May to October. Each patio takes two parking spaces; the restaurant pays for the lost revenue. To date, two restaurants have applied for this year, both on Brant Street. See article below for more details:

1. The April 19 Development & Infrastructure Committee approved the "as tendered" option for cycling facilities from Martha St to Guelph Ln. That includes a full bike lane on the north side, and sharrows on the south side. One travel lane in each direction and a centre turn lane remain. East of Guelph to Burloak, staff will report back to committee in July with options and costs for cycling infrastructure. 1. The April 19 Development & Infrastructure Committee approved a report outlining criteria for public-private parking partnerships. The criteria specify when the city might consider partnering with a private developer to add a level of underground public parking in a new commercial or residential development in the downtown. Through such partnerships the city could incrementally add parking supply, and disperse it throughout the downtown, rather than put parking in a single stand alone parking garage. Report: Downtown parking sufficient; criteria developed for future partnerships to build more4. The Bellview rezoning project was approved, consisting of a residential plan of subdivision with five lots and a private roadway at 1167 Bellview Crescent, and approval of rezoning to permit seven detached dwellings. The program allows seniors who earn under $44,800 annually to apply for a loan to defer their property taxes. 1. The April 19 Development and Infrastructure  approved the award of tender for road work from Maple Ave/Lakeshore Road to New-Alliance Ltd. Features of the road include raising it above the flood proof elevation and adding sidewalks and on-road bike lanes, among other features. The total project cost is $5,370,000, with Halton Region funding  $1,436,000. More details are below:
