Burlington Council Approves Insurance Rate Reduction for Business Owners Adding Temporary Patios on Public Land

At yesterday's regular meeting, Burlington City Council approved a reduction in insurance rates for local business owners who are adding a temporary patio on public land. The 2021 temporary patio program will require restaurateurs operating a temporary patio on public land to carry $2 million commercial general liability insurance, naming the City of Burlington as an additional insured on the policy. This is a reduction from previous years that required restaurateurs operating a temporary patio on public land to carry $5 million commercial general liability insurance. The insurance rate is only applicable to patios on public lands and in effect for the 2021 patio program, running from April 15 to Oct. 31, 2021.For more information or to apply for a temporary patio, please visit burlington.ca/patios.MAYOR MEED WARD'S TAKE:We heard you, and acted on insurance requirements.
