Burlington Council Unanimously Approves Locations for Rainbow Pride Banners
Burlington Council has unanimously approved the locations for the Rainbow Pride Banners that will be installed for Pride Month (June) starting this year.Click here for the staff report: TS-01-22 Rainbow Pride Banners.Below is the recommendation that Council approved at our Feb. 15 regularly-scheduled meeting:
Direct the Director of Transportation Services to install Rainbow Pride Banners along the section of Brant Street between Fairview Street and Ghent Avenue for the month of June, in the following years; 2022, 2023 and 2024.
For all recommendations from the Feb. 1 Community Planning, Regulation & Mobility Committee Meeting that were approved at the Feb. 15 Council Meeting, please see links to the minutes at the bottom of this post.
MY TAKE: People have really responded well to the City's various initiatives that support our 2SLGBTQIA+ community, including Rainbow Crosswalks and raising the Pride Flag on June 1. I know these banners will also be well-received as part of Pride Month. Banners are one more way to show we are an inclusive city. I'm also glad to see staff reviewed locations across our city for suitability before selecting the downtown location as it had the infrastructure to accommodate the banners.
