Burlington icon Ron Joyce leaves a legacy of entrepreneurial success and meaningful philanthropy

Last week, I released a statement on the passing of Ron Joyce and the legacy he leaves behind in Burlington and beyond. Our city lost a great man and community leader in the passing of Mr. Joyce, one of our most celebrated and generous residents. He not only leaves a legacy of remarkable entrepreneurship and business success, but one of meaningful philanthropy and giving back, as well.Mr. Joyce’s renown for years of hardwork building the Tim Hortons brand, as co-founder, to one of international success is easily matched by his charitable efforts – through The Joyce Family Foundation, helping make education more accessible for all Canadians, and the Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation, sending youth from low-income families to summer camps. The list of awards and acknowledgements he has received throughout his life are long and prestigious. In addition to local recognition, via the Distinguished Entrepreneur Award by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, and his name on display at the Ron Joyce Centre (home of the DeGroote School of Business’ Burlington campus), he also received the Order of Canada, the Gary Wright Humanitarian Award, the Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award, and was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame.He will be missed not only by those he knew and impacted throughout Burlington, but throughout the country and beyond.
