Burlington Joins in National AccessABILITY Week - May 26 to June 1

Please see below a media release from the City of Burlington.Burlington, Ont. – May 21, 2019 People of all abilities are encouraged to participate in National AccessABILITY Week by attending ReadAbility, a series of story-time sessions being held at various branches of Burlington Public Library. ReadAbility sessions are being organized by the Burlington Accessibility Advisory Committee, in partnership with Burlington Public Library, and involve a person living with a disability reading a story about their disability. After the story, people in the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions about the story or the reader’s experiences.

"The ReadAbility sessions are a great opportunity for children and adults to learn about the different topics and to ask questions so they can better understand the issues, perspectives and opportunities each of the readers bring forward." — Tricia Pokorny, Chair of the Burlington Accessibility Advisory Committee

More about National AccessABILITY WeekNational AccessABILITY Week (NAAW) takes place every year starting on the last Sunday in May. It is a time when accessibility and inclusion is promoted across communities and workplaces and a time to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities. It is also an opportunity to recognize the efforts of Canadians who are actively removing barriers and ensuring persons with disabilities have an equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of Canadian society. The increased social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities has positive economic and social benefits, for persons with disabilities, for business, the economy, and society in general.By bringing Canadians together to recognize the valuable contributions of persons with disabilities, we are strengthening the collaborative effort needed to create a country that is fully accessible and inclusive. For more information about National AccessABILITY Week, visit canada.ca/accessability-week.
