"While we have had to cancel in-person Canada Day activities this year, due to COVID-19 concerns, the holiday does provide an opportunity to reflect on what it means to be Canadian and a part of the Burlington community. In particular, for the Together we are Burlington video, we asked residents to share what brings us together in our city and the stories shared are incredibly diverse, powerful, and uplifting." -- Chris Glenn, Director of Recreation, Community and Culture
Canadian Spirit ActivitiesResidents can also share their Canadian spirit by completing a series of Canadian-inspired activities, between June 25 and July 1, on goosechase.com. Teams and/or individuals who complete five activities will be automatically entered into a random draw to win one of five Canadian Tire gift cards. It’s a time to celebrate all the wonderful things that make our country the best place to live, as well as all the incredible, diverse people who make our country what it is.It’s also a time for reflection. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge the dark chapters of history, to acknowledge and raise awareness of the legacy of racist government policies throughout our history and the impact it continues to have today through intergenerational trauma. We must commit to acknowledging our history, learning from it, and committing to do better. Committing to change to better the lives of the people who live here is what it means to be Canadian and it’s how we forge a stronger nation together moving forward.RELATED LINK:
