Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward's Statement on the Anniversary of 9/11
On today's anniversary of 9/11, and as an American by birth and Canadian by choice, I want to take a moment to reflect on the people from all nations, including Canada, who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.We are stronger than the attacks on our shared countries.I was able to visit with my family the memorial in New York City, shortly after it was built, and walked into the nearby church that was ground zero for the first responders who spent their days and nights there while undergoing rescue efforts. Hanging in that church still is their equipment and countless thank you letters written to them.First responders continually fight instinct and run towards danger, while the rest of us run away. We will never forget their sacrifices and continually thank them for the important work they do for our communities. In solidarity with our American neighbours, we have lowered the flags at Burlington City Hall today.
