Burlington Mayor Releases Statement Regarding Hate Crimes in the City
Please see below the following Statement from the Mayor I issued today (June 5).Earlier this morning, on Wednesday, June 5, Halton Regional Police Service issued a media release asking for information related to hate crimes that took place in the City of Burlington on May 21, 23, 26 and 30, and June 1-2.The crimes are related to individuals displaying hate-motivated and anti-Semitic messages at six locations in our city — including the front doors of Burlington City Hall.On behalf of the City of Burlington and Burlington City Council, I join Halton Police in condemning all incidents where this type of despicable behavior takes place. Hate absolutely has no place anywhere in our city. Burlington is a place that embraces and celebrates diversity, acceptance and respect.I want to thank Halton Police for looking into all of these incidences and I urge everyone in Burlington to contact our police service, and Crime Stoppers of Halton at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca, if they have any information or know who may be behind these appalling and evil acts of race-based hatred.
