Burlington Mayor Sends Letters to Condo, Apartment Associations Requesting Support With Mandatory Mask Guidelines

Today, I sent letters to the leadership and members of the Hamilton District Apartment Association (HDAA) and Condo Owners Association (COA) - Burlington asking for support from apartment and condo owners in the creation of mandatory mask guidelines in public common spaces, such as elevators and other shared spaces.The temporary mandatory mask bylaws recently, unanimously passed by Burlington City Council and Halton Regional Council do not include condo/apartment buildings. Having these locations support our bylaws by implementing their own mask guidelines would greatly help in ensuring our community stays safe and healthy as we are positioned to enter Stage 3 this Friday.Here are links to the letters I sent to the HDAA and COA - Burlington (I've also included the contents of the letters below):

I am reaching out to you today to ask for your support in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.The City of Burlington recently passed a bylaw mandating the use of masks in public indoor spaces that went into effect on Monday, July 20th. The Region of Halton passed a similar bylaw that goes into effect on Wednesday, July 22nd. These bylaws are intended to work with other measures such as physical distancing and hand-washing to keep the residents and businesses in our communities healthy by limiting transmission of this virus from person to person.My office has received countless inquiries from residents of apartment buildings, condominiums and other multi-unit dwellings to ask for help in creating and communicating guidance to residents of such properties that requires the use of masks in shared and often tightly-confined public spaces such as elevators, stairwells, laundry rooms and common areas.
