Burlington Transit Looking into Supporting MagnusCards Free App for People Living with Autism

Earlier this month, a resident contacted me and Burlington Transit highlighting a free app called MagnusCards that is designed for people living with autism.MagnusCards combines structured, step-by-step guidance with game design to help teach a variety of life skills through free downloadable Card Decks.I connected with Sue Connor, our Director of Burlington Transit, who let me know Oakville Transit is supporting the app and funded unique Card Decks that help those with autism or other cognitive disabilities feel supported and empowered to use its transit system, navigating tasks such as riding the bus, paying a fare or using the PRESTO card, planning a trip, transferring buses and how to stay safe on the bus.I have been told Burlington Transit is looking into the feasibility of supporting and funding the program for our transit users.MY TAKE:I think this app is fantastic! One of my priorities as Mayor is to work with Burlington Transit to remove any and all barriers that may exist for any of our residents. If the MagnusCards app can help our residents living with autism and other cognitive disabilities feel confident and comfortable enough to use our transit system, that's a win-win in my books.
