Update as of May 10, 2022:ApprovalsPermits:Conservation Halton and Halton RegionWe are happy to announce that the Conservation Halton Permit has been issued. Municipal Consent Permits can now be issued for work to be done around Regional and City roads.City of Burlington (CoB) Municipal Consent PermitEngineering and Forestry staff are working together to finalize the conditions related to the Municipal Consent Permit. The Municipal Consent Permit relates to any work being done within the City’s right-of way including along city roads or crossing over them. IASL/ Standard Broadband is facilitating payments to the City of Burlington related to the Municipal Access Agreement.City of Burlington (CoB) Road Occupancy PermitIASL/ Standard Broadband and CoB Transportation staff are in communication with regards to the Road Occupancy permit. The Road Occupancy Permit relates to traffic control that is necessary for the work to be done.Construction process:As the Conservation Halton permit has now been issued, work around the locates can commence within the next 10 days. We encourage everyone to keep the safety of the crews in mind and reduce driving speed when passing the work areas.Creeks, Pipelines and Hydro Update:Hydro:The Agreement for Joint Use of Poles has been received by Burlington Hydro (BHI) as of today (May 10th) and it is now fully executed. The next step is for IASL/ Standard Broadband to file the permit applications and crossing designs.  Upon receipt, BHI staff will finalize payment totals based on applications, and upon payment from IASL/ Standard Broadband the BHI Engineering consultant will start the review.Creek Aerial CrossingsThe drawings for the 5 aerial creek crossings have been completed and are ready to be submitted to Burlington Hydro for review.Pipeline Crossings: IASL/ Standard Broadband adjusted their plans to cross 5 oil pipeline right-of-ways aerially because the oil pipeline companies required the fiber cable to be placed 1.0m below the deep pipelines. The oil pipeline companies involved are Sun-Canadian, Enbridge Oil & Imperial Oil.Permit preparation and approval time for aerial crossings will be much faster than for buried crossings which would involve having to go under the pipelines at excessive depth. This solution will have less environmental impact than the deep pits that would have been required for buried crossings. Existing Burlington Hydro poles will be utilized.Next StepsRetaining a Certified Arborist for the project is a top priority for IASL/ Standard Broadband as this is a condition for the Municipal Consent Permit. Now that the necessary permits are in place the Arborist identified by IASL/ Standard Broadband can be secured. The group will meet again next week and continue to collaborate to ensure the project stays on track.Webpage:The city has set up a dedicated Rural Internet Installation webpage for the two rural broadband projects currently underway here: https://www.burlington.ca/en/services-for-you/rural-internet-installation.aspPlease check back regularly for updates. If you have subscribed to the page, you’ll receive an alert each time new information is posted.Comments/Questions:If you have any additional questions, please let us know and we will endeavour to get answers and include them in a future update. Please be assured that we are all working toward the same shared goal of securing rural broadband for our residents as soon as possible.Sincerely,Marianne & AngeloMayor Marianne Meed Ward & Ward 6 Councillor Angelo BentivegnaRELATED LINKS:
