Burlington Ward 6 Rural Broadband Internet Project Update: May 25, 2022

Please see below this week’s project update from Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Councillor Angelo Bentivegna for the Rural Ward 6 Internet Broadband project, as we continue to collaborate with all involved to provide status updates to residents.

Mayor Meed Ward and Ward 6 Councillor Angelo Bentivegna invites all interested residents to join the live update meetings to provide further details and answer any questions arising throughout the project. Update as of May 17, 2022:ApprovalsPermits:Halton RegionHalton Region issued the Municipal Consent Permit and the Road Occupancy Permit will follow soon.City of Burlington (CoB) Municipal Consent PermitPayments to the City of Burlington related to the Municipal Access Agreement has been sent from IASL/ Standard Broadband.Documents needed for the permit have been sent to IASL/ Standard Broadband and are now signed and returned. The Municipal Consent permit is now ready to be released as soon as the confirmation of payment (mentioned above) is shared with staff. As soon as the refundable security deposit payment is finalized, the permit will be sent out.City of Burlington (CoB) Road Occupancy PermitContractors will have Road Occupancy forms completed and sent back to the City of Burlington this week in order for construction on Walkers Line, once Derry Road is completed.LocatesLocates for the Derry Road area have been received back. A Sewer locate is outstanding, but a follow up is currently in progress. Locates for Walkers Line have been 60% completed and the remaining locates should be received back by next week.Construction processWe are happy to report that construction is planned to start during next week. We encourage everyone to keep the safety of the crews in mind and reduce driving speed when passing the work areas.Creeks, Pipelines and Hydro Update:Burlington Hydro (BHI)Once the Pole Permit applications are received, BHI will review these and finalize the related fees and payments.Aerial CrossingsThe permits are ready to be submitted to BHI. Pole analysis and drawings are all done and ready to go.Next StepsArborist has been secured and IASL/ Standard Broadband will be meeting with them to finalize details.
