Burlington's 2023 Budget Provides One-Time Funding for Continuing Work on Major Transit Station Areas' 'Area-Specific Plans'
Our weekly series "Budget Briefs" lets residents know how our community will be benefitting from specific investments in Burlington's approved 2023 Operating and Capital Budget.

As part of the investments in the 2023 Operating and Capital Budget, the City of Burlington is providing one-time funding related to our Major Transit Station Areas (MTSAs) Area-Specific Plans, to:
- Help complete technical studies & the MTSA Area-Specific Plan Project;
- Respond to changing Provincial planning frameworks; and
- Support continued public engagement.
This funding is needed despite staff’s continued efforts to re-allocate funds and take on tasks from the project scope to reduce consultant fees. Staff will continue to look for additional means to take on extra responsibilities and refine the scope of work as necessary in response to provincial level changes and the New Official Plan Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) Process and ensure budget efficiencies wherever possible.This funding will allow staff to complete the Major Transit Station Area Area-Specific Plan (MTSA ASP) Project, including the completion of Mobility Hubs Study and MTSA Project technical studies, as well as the delivery of ASPs/Official Plan Policies and implementing Zoning for the Burlington GO MTSA and Aldershot GO MTSA. This funding does not include the funds required for the Land Use Compatibility Work for the Appleby GO MTSA but will support the ultimate completion of Appleby GO MTSA ASP/Official Plan policies, to be completed by City staff.To learn more, please visit the City's Major Transit Station Areas dedicated webpage.Additional Resources:
