Burlington's City-wide Burn Ban Lifted, Effective Immediately

*Please see media release below issued by the City of Burlington.Burlington, Ont. — May 8, 2020 — The Burlington Fire Department has lifted the open-air burning ban issued on April 13, 2020. This change is effective immediately.Residents that live in rural designated burning areas, with open-air burning permits, can resume open-air burning if necessary. Those with permits are reminded to follow the bylaw and conditions of their permit.Unnecessary burning and recreational fires should be avoided and urban residents are reminded that open-air burning in urban areas of Burlington is never allowed. The Burlington Fire Department will issue fines to those with open-air fires in urban Burlington.As part of the COVID-19 response, the burn ban was implemented as a preventative measure to make sure that Fire Department resources were available when and where needed most. Additionally, the Fire Department was trying to limit non-emergency interactions with residents and respect physical distancing requirements.

"Though the fire ban has been lifted, residents should only burn if necessary for farming and controlled clearing of land. I also encourage those with permits to check weather conditions and use extra caution when burning outdoors. Open-air burning is only allowed in approved rural areas of Burlington and requires an open-air burning permit." -- Dave Lazenby, Burlington Fire Chief and Operations Section
