Burlington's COVID-19 Public Zoom Town Hall

On Wednesday December 16th, we held our first public "Zoom" town hall from 6-7 p.m. to continue the conversation with our community about COVID-19.We have held six town halls already throughout the year by telephone in March, April, June, July, September and November but this was the first time we tried out the Zoom platform to connect with residents. While our audience last night was engaged for the full hour, we saw fewer attendees than the telephone-only events (where we often see thousands join us each time).Questions arose relating to hospital capacity, vaccine safety and distribution, and what city programs are available throughout the holidays and winter season. Answers were thoughtful as always, thanks to the expert panel who joined me, including:

  • The Honourable Karina Gould, MP, Burlington
  • MP Pam Damoff, Oakville-North Burlington
  • Eric Vandewall – President & CEO of Joseph Brant Hospital
  • Dr. Dale Kalina – Medical Director of Infection, Prevention and Control at Joseph Brant Hospital
  • Tim Commisso – Burlington City Manager
  • Allan Magi – Executive Director, Environment, Infrastructure & Community Services
  • Chris Glenn – Director of Recreation Services
  • Anita Cassidy – Executive Director, Burlington Economic Development
  • Carla Nell – President, Burlington Chamber of Commerce

We will be planning more opportunities to engage with residents as we continue to move through these unusual times. If you are interested in watching the recorded event and hearing all our experts first-hand, it is available HERE
