Burlington's NUVO Network Hosting Hackathon with United Way
Burlington-based NUVO Network is putting on a Hackathon event in partnership with the United Way of Halton and Hamilton (UWHH) from Oct. 5-6.A hackathon is a free, creative problem-solving event where designers, researchers, programmers and other innovators come together to collaborate and intensively produce a concept solution to a proposed problem. It is a weekend event that takes place over 24 hours and hosts up to 100 participants from Halton and Hamilton. While the emphasis is on students and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 29, the event also welcomes some qualified local high school students to be part of the Hackathon experience.A panel will release the hack questions 1 week prior to the event, however nothing can be created before the 24 hour work period. The event also features personal/professional development workshops, opportunities to meet new people, interactions with sponsors, building on skills, and fun activities throughout the weekend. The Hack the Nu event is intended to help build the next generation of innovators, volunteers and philanthropists. Participants will build their skills while working on a problem. They will participate in a pitch contest and present their solutions to a panel of judges. They will also learn about the value of sharing their time, treasure and talents with charitable organizations, like UWHH.Participants are asked to bring a sleeping bag, laptop, charger and whatever else they may need for the weekend. Food and refreshments will be provided. Those interested are asked to fill out the sign-up form for participants. If you're not 18-29 and still would like to get involved, there are opportunities for volunteers and mentors of all ages to participate: click here. For more details and/or information, visit nuvonetwork.com/hack-the-nu, email: hackthenu@nuvonetwork.com or call 905-592-2598 and ask for Zubash Akmal.
