Burlington’s skate-lending program expands to Appleby Ice Centre’s The State Hub
Great news for our local skaters – the City of Burlington’s skate-lending program is expanding to the Appleby Ice Centre.Residents of all ages can access a variety of skates and other equipment on a first-come, first-served basis, all year-round, without a time limit or the need to fill a sign-out form. The Skate Hub is located in the lobby of ice pads 1 and 2. Its hours of operation are the same as the facility hours for the Appleby Ice Centre.
“The goal of the program is to increase physical activity for all ages and remove barriers to participation. If you have skate equipment that is in good condition, you can help someone have fun and be active by dropping them off at city recreational facility and selected restaurants in the city.” – Ann Smith, Supervisor of Sports Development
The skate-lending program is also available at the Burlington Rotary Centennial Pond on weekday evenings, the weekend and holidays. Skate Lending Hours of Operation of the Burlington Rotary Centennial Pond are:
- Weekday evenings: 5-10 p.m.
- Weekend and Holidays: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Both locations have a variety of sizes available for local skaters.Donations NeededAnyone with used skates, gloves, sticks or helmets in good condition can donate them to the lending program. Donations can be dropped off at any City of Burlington community centre, arena or pool, City Hall, as well as Emma’s Back Porch, Gator Ted’s and Wendel Clark’s restaurants. For more information on skating in Burlington, visit burlington.ca/skating.
