City of Burlington Delegation Headed to 2022 AMO Conference

I am delighted to once again be participating in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's (AMO) 2022 Conference with our City of Burlington Delegation, next week.The Burlington Delegation includes myself, members of Council and senior City staff. We'll be joining more than 1,700 participants at this year's conference in Ottawa from Aug. 14-17.In addition to the workshops and sessions, municipal officials and staff have the chance to meet with provincial ministers to discuss issues particular to their communities and share what's happening in their municipalities.Here are the ministers and ministries the City of Burlington Delegation will be meeting with (PDFs of the presentations for each meeting are provided below):

I will also be joining the Region of Halton Delegation at the 2022 AMO Conference that includes the Regional Chair, the Mayors of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville, and senior Regional staff. Here are the ministers and ministries the Region of Halton Delegation will be meeting with:

  • Ministry of Infrastructure – Parliamentary Assistant MPP Amarjot Sanhu; and
  • Minister of Health, the Hon. Sylvia Jones

As part of the Ontario's Big City Mayors (OBCM) caucus, we'll be holding a joint meeting with the Mayors & Regional Chairs of Ontario (MARCO) caucus in Ottawa, prior to the start of the 2022 AMO Conference. OBCM will also be meeting with the following ministers and ministries:

  • Minister of the Environment, Conservation & Parks, the Hon. David Piccini;
  • Minister of Infrastructure, the Hon. Kinga Surma;
  • Attorney General of Ontario, the Hon. Doug Downey;
  • Ministry of Mental Health & Addictions – Associate Minister Michael Tibollo; and
  • Minister of Finance, the Hon. Peter Bethlenfalvy

Following two virtual conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic, municipal, provincial, and federal officials are coming together in Ottawa to participate in Ontario’s top educational forum for municipal governments. This year’s event features more than 60 speakers, sessions and workshops, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities.Keynote speakers at the 2022 AMO Conference include: Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his Government’s ministers, Interim Leader of the NDP Peter Tabuns (Leader of the Official Opposition), Liberal MPP Stephen Blais, Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner, and AMO President Jamie McGarvey.The annual conference is an opportunity for municipal officials to take part in workshops and sessions where we can learn from each other and work on solutions to help tackle today's biggest challenges, as well as learn about new opportunities that can help benefit our communities. Sessions and speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including climate change; strengthening Indigenous relations; creating diverse, equitable and inclusive communities; housing affordability; mental health and addictions; modernizing the public health system; municipal property assessment; changes to Conservation Authorities; Blue Box transition; municipal pensions, and much more.For more details on the 2022 AMO Conference, please visit www.amo.on.ca
