City of Burlington grants noise bylaw exemptions to three construction project sites

Three construction project sites in Burlington have been granted noise bylaw exemptions by the City at: the QEW at North Shore Boulevard East, 1800 Tobyn Drive and Hwy. 403 at King Road.Noise bylaw exemptions are typically needed when construction equipment must be used before 7 a.m. and/or after 7 p.m. Construction equipment refers to any equipment or device designed and intended for use in construction or material handling. These can include air compressors, pile drivers, pneumatic or hydraulic tools, bulldozers, tractors, excavators, trenches, cranes, derricks, loaders, scrapers, pavers, generators, off-highway haulers or trucks, ditchers, compactors and rollers, pumps, concrete mixers, graders or other material handling equipment. • Work is expected to begin on or around:
  • Wednesday, May 1 at 10 p.m. until Thursday, Oct. 31 at 9 a.m.
  • Friday, May 1, 2020 at 10 p.m. until Saturday, Oct. 31 at 9 a.m.
  • Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 10 p.m. until Sunday, Oct. 31 at 9 a.m.

1800 Tobyn Drive - Noise exemption_1800TobynDrive

• Work was expected to begin on or around Friday, Feb. 8 until Friday, May 31 - construction will take place from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and heaters (see below) will be running 24 hours.
• In a letter sent to the City of Burlington (received on Feb. 8, 2019): Tobyn Park Homes and Walkers Green Residences Ltd. are currently constructing a 4-storey, 91-unit condominium that requires a temporary natural gas heating system until May 31, 2019
• The heating is needed to complete all finishings in the condo building and the 91 units during the winter months. The heating system consists of three 700,000 BTUs natural gas construction heaters that run on a 24-hour clock, seven days a week.
• While the heaters are running, they make a sound similar to air moving through a pipe.
• In their letter, the developers write that every effort to restrict the excessive noise during that time will be taken.

Hwy. 403 at King Road - Noise exemption_Hwy403_KingRd

• Work is expected to begin on or around Wednesday, March 20 at 10 p.m. until Friday, Feb. 28, 2020 at 6 a.m.
• The proposed work deals with upgrading 20 variable message signs.

Hwy. 403 at King Road and QEW, Fort Erie bound, near Brant Street

• Work is expected to begin on or around March 1, 2020 to Feb. 28, 2021.

Sometimes, due to uncontrollable circumstances, such as weather conditions, it may be necessary for the proposed times and dates of the exemptions to change.
