City of Burlington hosts delegation from Ghana

On Monday (June 24), the City of Burlington and I hosted a delegation from the West African country of Ghana. Mayors from municipalities across Ghana joined officials from the Ghanaian High Commission in their tour of Burlington.The delegation from Ghana received presentations from the City’s Transportation, City Building and Capital Works Departments. Following the presentations at Burlington City Hall, the Ghanaian delegation continued their visit to the City’s Fire Headquarters for a tour and presentation on the City’s fire operations.The Mayors from Ghana included:

• the Hon. Martina Appiah-Nyantakyi — of the Ahafo Ano North Municipality;
• the Hon. Alidu Seidu — of the Asokore Mampong Municipality;
• the Hon. Elijah Adansi-Bonah — of the Obuasi Municipality;
• the Hon. Michael Awuku Amoah — of the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality;
• the Hon. Collins Ofinam Takyi — of the Tanor South Municipality; and
• the Hon. Joseph Agyeman Dapaah — of the Ahafo Ano South District.

I was also truly touched to receive a gift from the Ghanaian Mayors that included a lion statue and a clock in the shape of the country of Ghana and wrapped in Kente cloth, the traditional/national cloth of Ghana, which is worn by several Ghanaian tribes — most especially the Akans, the Kingdom of Ashanti royalty.MY TAKEIt was an honour to host the Mayors from Ghana today and we want to thank them for including Burlington in their visit to Ontario. The City of Burlington has a proud history of partnerships with cities around the world and opportunities like these are what makes Burlington a truly great city.I wanted to thank the Mayors and the Ghana Delegation for their interest in our city.
