City of Burlington Redesigning its Website

*Please see below a message from the City of Burlington. We’re redesigning Our Website! The City has begun the process to redesign and modernize our website.  We want to make it  easier for residents and visitors to find information. The redesign will help people better navigate the site and access online services. This work is important for the City to continue to meet accessibility standards.  These standards are required by the Province of Ontario. We will create a ‘mobile responsive website.’ A responsive website means whether a visitor to the site is coming from a laptop, tablet or phone, the website automatically changes to fit the device you’re reading it on. A review of burlington.ca, burlingtontransit.ca and calendar.burlington.ca is underway. These will move to one seamless site. The current websites were launched in 2015, since that time there has been significant changes in technology and it’s important that the City update our website to stay current and ensure that we are offering the type of online services residents have come to expect in 2021. Certain functions are also outdated and may not be supported by our vendor in the future.A redesign of the City’s website was originally scheduled to be done following completion of the City’s One Brand Project . The One Brand project is currently on hold until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, it was determined that a redesign should go forward now to modernize the website and improve the user experience.Through surveys and polls, residents continue to tell us that our website is the number one channel they use to find out about city programs, services and initiatives.Throughout the process, residents will have an opportunity to provide feedback and input with the first opportunity for feedback expected later this summer. Check getinvolvedburlington.ca for up to date information on engagement opportunities. The modernization of these sites will be divided into three phases. The first phase, which is underway, will see the development of a new site map and updated content. The second phase will be the redesign and implementation of a new site which will continue into 2022.The third phase, to be confirmed, will allow residents to create an account on the site and have customized services available to them. The multi-phased redesign will continue into 2022. The process will be guided by feedback we receive from residents and visitors to the site.--*Posted by John Bkila, Mayor's Media and Digital Communications Specialist
