City of Burlington will receive $7.3M in Ontario's Safe Restart Municipal Operating Funding Phase 2: Additional Municipal Pressures program

Yesterday (Dec. 16), I received a letter from the Hon. Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing that the City of Burlington will be receiving $7.302 million in additional provincial funding through the Safe Restart Municipal Operating Funding Phase 2: Additional Municipal Pressures program.Read the Minister's letter here through this link. The total amount includes $5,411,000 to support our remaining 2020 operating needs based on the information submitted in the City of Burlington's application, as well as $1,891,000 to help with 2021 COVID-related operating pressures. This funding is also in addition to the Phase 1 funding of $4,470,700 we received in August and the $2.2 million transit funding Burlington will be receiving, also announced yesterday. The City of Burlington is one of 48 municipalities that completed the extensive detailed application required for phase 2 funding. This is great news for our City. The Province listened to us.This additional funding will help us as we enter a difficult 2021 budget to maintain and enhance the services our residents expect, while keeping it affordable.Thank you to our local MPPs – Jane McKenna, Effie Triantafilopoulos and Parm Gill – for being great advocates for our City.As well, thank you to the City’s finance, government relations and leadership teams for the hours they spent working and filling out applications to justify why we needed this funding. This will go a long way as we head into 2021.RELATED LINK:
