City of Burlington’s Fourth Housing Strategy Survey & Virtual Open Houses from April 19-May 3

Burlington, Ont. — April 13, 2022 — The City of Burlington is inviting residents and stakeholders to another engagement opportunity on its Housing Strategy from April 19 until May 3.The City is looking for feedback on the draft Housing Strategy document through a survey and two virtual open houses. This feedback will help the City as it completes its work on the Housing Strategy to give current and future residents more housing options across the city. The Housing Strategy is an opportunity to develop creative and innovative solutions for housing in Burlington, that build on and support the Halton Region’s Comprehensive Housing Strategy. Residents and stakeholders are invited to complete the fourth and final housing strategy survey online until May 3, 2022 and attend a Virtual Open House on April 23, April 25 or May 2.Complete the Housing Strategy Online Survey between April 19 and May 3This housing strategy survey will be available to complete at getinvolvedburlington.ca/housingstrategy between Tuesday, April 19 and Monday, May 3, 2022. The City is looking for feedback on the draft Housing Strategy document. The draft Housing Strategy outlines the vision for Housing in Burlington, the themes, actions and pathways to achieve the actions. The draft Housing Strategy outlines 13 actions which will move the City of Burlington closer to the vision for Housing in the City. The Housing Strategy also outlines the implementation plan for the actions based on what actions can be accomplished in the short, medium and long-term. City staff will use the feedback from the last round of engagement to finalize the Housing Strategy which will be presented to the Community Planning, Regulation and Mobility Committee and then Council in June.Join a Burlington Housing Strategy Virtual Open House – April 23, 25 and May 2City staff will provide a project update, overview of the work completed to date and discuss the draft housing strategy. The focus of the Open Houses will be to discuss the recommended actions identified in the draft Housing Strategy. Stakeholders are encouraged to join the discussion, ask questions, share feedback and learn more about the Housing Strategy project.

- As the City works towards achieving the 25-year strategic vision, there are top priorities that significantly impact and enable success for the City. A housing strategy is part of Top Priority - Focus Area 1 - Increasing Economic Prosperity and Community Responsive Growth Management that have been identified by Council and Leadership.
- In January 2021, Burlington City Council endorsed the Housing Strategy Terms of Reference. The City is working with the City’s Housing Strategy Project Team, Housing Strategy Working Group and Housing Strategy Steering Committee.
- In March 2021, the City kicked off the Housing Strategy with a virtual launch and the first Housing Strategy survey to share information about housing in Burlington, collect information about housing concerns and gather feedback on how stakeholders would like to be engaged throughout the project. This information was used to develop the Housing Strategy Project Engagement Plan.
- Over the summer of 2021, technical background work was done by the consulting team. Staff also launched a second Housing Strategy survey to collect residents’ experiences with finding affordable, safe and accessible housing that meets their needs. This helped identify housing issues, gaps and needs.
- In November 2021, staff hosted a virtual open house to discuss the Housing Strategy Project and the findings of the Housing Needs and Opportunities Report.
- Staff presented the Housing Needs and Opportunities Report to Council in December 2021.
- In early 2022, Staff hosted a virtual Public Information Centre and a third online survey to receive feedback on the preliminary vision statement, themes and actions outlined in chapter 5 of its Housing Needs and Opportunities Report, presented to Council in December 2021.
