City receives $162k grant from Green Municipal Fund for district energy study

green municipal fundBurlington has received a grant of $162,250 from the Green Municipal Fund. The grant supports a study that will determine whether an integrated district energy system  — a centralized heating and cooling facility serving the community — would be more energy efficient and effective in reducing greenhouse gas  emissions than using individual systems for each building. Additional study costs will be covered by the city and Burlington Electricity Services Inc.

The fund is a partnership between the federal government and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). The Government of Canada endowed the FCM with $550 million to establish the Green Municipal Fund™. The Fund supports partnerships and leveraging of both public and private-sector funding to reach higher standards of air, water and soil quality, and climate protection.View the full media release here.Media coverage: Burlington Post
