Conservation Halton Conducting Review/Update of Wetland Mapping; Give Your Feedback
Conservation Halton (CH) is conducting a review and update of its wetland mapping and is looking for feedback from the community. The mapping is used to identify potential wetlands and determine if a property may be regulated by Conservation Halton as a result.Wetlands are the most biologically-diverse kind of ecosystem, as they support both aquatic and terrestrial plant and wildlife species. These ecosystems provide a range of benefits, such as flood management, water quality improvement, groundwater replenishment and climate resilience, as well as recreation and economic opportunities, such as for timber, hunting and fishing.
CH’s wetland mapping is a screening tool used to flag potential wetlands and to identify if a property may be regulated by CH. CH regulates all watercourses, valleylands, wetlands, Lake Ontario and Burlington Bay shoreline, and hazardous lands, as well as lands adjacent to these features. Up-to-date mapping supports the delivery of its regulatory and planning programs and helps ensure wetlands are protected. CH is undertaking a comprehensive review and update of its wetland mapping that may result in changes to its regulation mapping. Draft mapping will be available for review and comment until Sept. 13, 2022.To learn more about CH’s wetland mapping update, please click here: conservationhalton.ca/public-notices-and-engagement
