Reminder: Fireworks not permitted outside select holidays, not in city parks
While we continue to find ways to enjoy ourselves during this very strange and challenging time, I want to take a moment to remind everyone about the use of Fireworks in our community. Many of us love fireworks, and some (including many beloved pets) do not. We're always engaging the public as we update and evaluate our bylaws. The noise can be especially disturbing and surprising to others as they tend to happen so late in the evening. It's never easy balancing all the needs and preferences in a city with almost 200,000 people, but we all try our best .The setting off of low-hazard fireworks is permitted on Victoria Day and Canada Day and the three days immediately before each of these holidays. The Fire Chief can grant exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Some highlights of the fireworks by-law that exists in the City of Burlington include:
- No person under the age of eighteen years shall set off any firework(s).
- No person shall use, set off any firework(s) in such a place or in such a manner as might create danger or constitute a nuisance to any person or property, or do or cause or allow any unsafe act or omission at the time and place for the setting off of any fireworks.
- No person shall set off any firework or fireworks in or into any building, doorway, automobile or other place where such setting off might create a danger or nuisance to any person or property.
- Fireworks shall only be discharged on private property. No person shall set off any fireworks on any highway, street and not on public property including city parks or school yards.
