Groups can Apply for Halton Region Community Investment Fund 2021 Funding Envelope Starting Sept. 18
At today's (Sept. 16) Halton Regional Council meeting, we received a staff report update for the Halton Region Community Investment Fund (HRCIF) approach to 2021 funding and on 2020 allocations.

An initial intake for 2021 funding will be open by Sept. 18, 2020 with an application deadline of Nov. 2, 2020. Applications will continue to be accepted throughout 2021 to make sure the HRCIF is well-positioned to respond to emergency community needs, as well as address the ongoing impacts of COVID-19.Regional staff note in the report that this is consistent with the emergent nature of Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) planning in Halton.Applicants that meet the eligibility criteria can apply for grants in both:
- Category One (1-year grants) -- support short-term or small capital requests from non-profit and/or charitable organizations. Grants are awarded for one year, up to a maximum of $30,000; and
- Category Two (multi-year grants) -- support new or established charitable programs and initiatives with up to 3 years of funding. There is no set maximum on the amount of funding an applicant can request in this category.
All applicants are required to demonstrate how the program/initiative will incorporate public health guidance related to COVID-19. Regional staff will offer public information sessions on the HRCIF via video conferencing. Details on the HRCIF, including information session dates, will be posted on halton.ca when the initial proposal intake is opened.As of Aug. 13, 2020, 9 in-year requests have been approved for funding in the amount of $212,640. This includes:
- $99,400 to the Halton Equity and Diversity Roundtable to support efforts to strengthen equity and inclusion;
- $18,000 to the Milton Halal Food Bank for food purchases and operational costs; and
- $15,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton to support virtual matching opportunities.
Funding in the amount of $601,628 is available for in-year investments during the rest of 2020. Halton Regional staff continue to work with community partners to identify needs and respond with investments where appropriate.Burlington groups/programs that have already benefitted from 2020 HRCIF investments include:
