Halton Region Medical Officer of Health Issues Class Order Defining When to Self-Isolate and who is Considered a Close Contact

On May 22, 2020, the Halton Region Medical Officer of Health issued a Class Order under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act. This Order requires residents who have symptoms of COVID-19, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and all associated close contacts to stay home for 14 days and self-isolate.To learn more about the Class Order:

The Class Order and FAQ sheet clearly defines when to self-isolate and who is considered a close contact. The order will be in effect until the Medical Officer of Health determines it’s no longer required.You are required to self-isolate if you:

  • Have been diagnosed with COVID-19;
  • Have been tested for COVID-19 and are waiting for laboratory test results;
  • Have symptoms (even if mild) associated with COVID-19 or have had such symptoms within the past 14 days;
  • Have come in close contact with someone diagnosed, suspected to have COVID-19, or with symptoms associated with COVID-19; or
  • Have been asked to do so by Halton Region Public Health.

Close contact means you are a person who, within the past 14 days:

  • Provided care for a COVID-19 patient, including health care workers, family member or other caregivers; or
  • Had other similar close physical contact with a probable or confirmed case of COVID-19 while the case was ill; or
  • Lived with or otherwise had close, prolonged contact with a probable or confirmed case of COVID-19 while the case was ill; or
  • Have been identified by Halton Region Public Health as a close contact of a probable or confirmed case of COVID-19.

Although we are seeing some positive signs, and a slow and cautious reopening in some areas across the City, we are not through this pandemic yet, and must continue to be vigilant and follow the Provincial Emergency Orders and advice of our medical professionals.
