Help Choose the Location of Burlington's Next Rainbow Crosswalk
We want you to help us choose the location of the City of Burlington’s next Rainbow Crosswalks. Our Rainbow Crosswalks are a visible way to show that our city stands with our 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual/allies) community. It helps to send a strong message of welcome and support to everyone in our community and advance our city’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion.Following the installation of our first crosswalk last year at Lakeshore Road and Burlington Avenue across from Spencer Smith Park, we received an outpouring of support from the community – and many requests for additional locations. We are looking for feedback for up to three locations to implement each year for the remainder of this term of council (2021-2022). A list of potential locations can be found further down this post. Click here for a link to the online survey -- bit.ly/rainbowcrosswalksurvey on the City of Burlington's website. We ask you to choose your top 6 locations through this survey, and based on the full results and community-wide feedback of the locations, the City will make plans to implement them. Locations will be chosen based on results of this survey, other community input and ensuring distribution throughout different wards across the city.Locations that are not selected this time can be considered for future year installations.A report will be presented to City Committee and Council in June, Pride Month, with the results of the survey and next steps. Some locations have been pre-qualified by city staff, as they need to be at an intersection protected by a stop sign or signal, have good pavement condition, and ideally be in a prominent location with good visibility.Survey is open until 11:59 p.m. on May 23, 2021.
