Construction notice: Hydro work starting on John, Caroline, Maria April 9 to mid-July

 Public Notice - John Street Hydro System ExpansionInstallation of Underground Hydro Duct structure, Cables and Electrical to provide Service to the New Berkley Condominium DevelopmentBurlington Hydro has scheduled to construct the above mentioned project commencing on or around April 9, 2018. The Project area limits are along John Street, between the City parking lot just south of James Street, up to Caroline Street, and as well, along Maria Street, between John and Elizabeth Street.General activities to be performed:

  • Install concrete encased ducts via open trench method under the sidewalk along west side of John Street and north side of Maria Street
  • Install concrete encased ducts via open trench method across John Street, James Street and Maria Street
  • Install switchgear foundations and equipment on south east corner of James and John
  • Install power cables within duct structures
  • Restoration of sidewalk and road cuts as per City of Burlington standards

ContactsConstruction ScheduleConstruction activity is scheduled to commence the week of April 9rd, 2018 with appropriate signage and tree removal and tree protection measures. Construction completion is scheduled for mid to end of July 2018, weather permitting.Temporary Road ClosuresThere are no road closures planned for this work during normal business hours. The road crossings will be completed during late evening and early morning hours to avoid road closures and re-routing public and school bus services and emergency services.There will be lane closures along John Street and Maria Street which will be coordinated in accordance with City bylaws and Provincial regulations.Pedestrian Sidewalk AccessPortions of the side walk along John Street and Maria Street will be closed and diverted with appropriate signage through the civil construction phase which is expected to last 10 to 12 weeks.Access to Your Residence or BusinessAccess to all properties will be maintained at all times. Please note that during normal construction hours (Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) slight delays could be experienced due to the movement of construction machinery and due to the operation. All efforts will be made to reduce the delays and to keep the traffic flow as smooth as possible. We request your cooperation in this regard.All disturbances to walkways and driveways will be restored in accordance with City of Burlington Standards.Power InterruptionsThere are no power interruptions planned for this project. If you experience issues with your hydro service, contact at any time Burlington Hydro’s control centre at 877-310-4937.Dust and MudDue to the nature of the work, there will be increased levels of dust and mud near the work site. The contractor is required to manage these issues in accordance with City bylaws. VibrationYou may at times experience some minor vibration as a result of construction equipment and process.  We recommend that you remove small light objects from shelving.NoiseYou will experience noise as a result of the construction. Work will be scheduled in accordance with local noise bylaws. Be advised that a portion of the work is planned during the late evening and early morning hours to avoid road closures. Customers will be notified when this work is scheduled.Garbage Pick upPlease continue to put your garbage and recycling out on the usual day.  In order to help the contractor we would ask that you indicate on your garbage cans and recycle bins your house or business numbers.If you have any inquiries or concerns related to this project, please call the appropriate contact provided above during normal business hours.
