Proclamations are read at the beginning of every regularly-scheduled Burlington City Council meeting.A proclamation is an official announcement issued by the Mayor to recognize exceptional events, groups, people, or achievements in the City of Burlington. Since it's launch, many major food manufacturers and national franchises are providing more vegan options in response to this growing demand.

School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day: March 23, 2022Our community recognizes and values the contributions of those individuals who serve and protect our young residents as they make their way to and from schools throughout the Burlington community. The reliability and dedication shown every day and in all kinds of weather is a testament to their commitment to the safety of our children.

Poetry Month: April 2022April is recognized by the League of Canadian Poets and across North America as National Poetry Month. April introduces Burlington residents to the pleasures and benefits of poetry, brings poets and poetry to the public in immediate and innovative ways.

Green Shirt Day: April 7, 2022After the devastating events of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash that took the lives of sixteen passengers, Humboldt Broncos defenseman Logan Boulet succumbed to his injuries April 7. Logan’s parents offered to donate his organs so that six lives could live on. As news spread of the organ donation it is estimated that almost 150,000 people registered to become organ donors in the days and weeks that followed. Green Shirt Day was created to honour, remember, and recognize all the victims and families of the fatal crash and to continue Logan’s legacy by inspiring Canadians to talk to their families and register as organ donors.

Burlington Cenotaph Centennial Day: April 10, 2022On April 10, 1922, Canada's Governor General, Lord Byng of Vimy officiated at the unveiling of Burlington's Cenotaph in Lakeside Park, along with over 3,000 citizens eager to witness this historic event. During and after the horrific Great War, hundreds of citizens at home designed, manufactured and installed a 17 ft. tall memorial inscribed with 38 names of local men who had paid the supreme sacrifice. Two decades after the 1919 Treaty in Versailles was signed, another war added forty-four names of new Burlington heroes that never returned home.On Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m., there will be a ceremony at the Cenotaph to commemorate the 100th anniversary and also to honour the 105th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and all are welcome to attend.
