Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: August 16-22, 2021

Good Morning Burlington,The pressure on upper levels of government to implement some form of proof of vaccine system continues to mount. Politicians across Ontario are asking the provincial government to take action to avoid potential fourth-wave lockdowns and as you've likely seen, many Universities have been announcing mandatory proof of vaccinations for on-site attendance. To date, over 72% of eligible Ontarians (age 12+) have received two doses of the vaccine, and over 74% have done so in Halton. The 7-day rolling average of new cases in Ontario continues to rise again and we have now had several days in a row with over 500 new cases. Dr. Tam stated yesterday that we are now in a fourth wave in Canada, and while hospitalizations so far remain low, vaccinations are imperative to avoiding additional strain on the health care system and potential lockdowns. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference takes place all next week (Sun-Wed) with myself and several members of council in attendance each day.Check out my weekly update for the week ahead right here: Mayors Weekly Public Update August 16-22Wishing you all a continued happy and healthy summer.~ Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
