Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: August 30-Sept 5, 2021

Good Morning Burlington,As Labour Day weekend approaches, I think back to it's origins in 1894 where its intent was to promote working-class solidarity and belonging during a time of rapid industrialization and change. We have certainly seen a great deal of change throughout this pandemic and its impact on workers across every single industry. From healthcare workers who have tirelessly saved lives and distributed life-saving vaccines, to front-line workers who endured increased risks to ensure we could always get essential groceries and access essential services like transit, to teachers having to pivot back and forth from in-person to online learning, to those facing ongoing uncertainty in the restaurant, hospitality, fitness and personal care industries - it has been an extraordinary and challenging time. I hope that this coming Labour Day each of you can take some time to rest and replenish, as well as find a way to express gratitude for all the workers in our lives who have kept going despite unpredictable and unusual obstacles.Check out my weekly update for the week ahead right here: Mayors Weekly Public Update August 30-Sept 6~ Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
