Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: July 11-17, 2022
Good morning Burlington,Last Friday saw many start of the weekend disconnected digitally with Rogers reporting a nationwide outage for cellular service and Internet service. This ended up affecting Zoom court dates, debit/Interac payments, some hospital services and even our police services with many being unable to call 911, if they had encountered an emergency. While service began to be restored around 11 p.m. on the Friday for many, it goes to show you how much we have come to rely on our telecommunications sector and how it's become an essential service, in many respects.Thankfully, the rest of the weekend was a little brighter with spectacular weather and a huge turnout for 6th annual car show in downtown Burlington. I was joined by Council colleagues Kelvin Galbraith and Shawna Stolte to open the event. Classic, muscle, exotic and race cars, an electric Hummer and more were all featured. Those who attended also got the chance to see the restored/rebuilt Fossmobile at Civic Square -- the first combustion engine built in Canada. The event was a fundraiser for our Joseph Brant Hospital.I hope everyone got the chance to get outside this past weekend and enjoyed the warm temperature and wonderful sunshine. This week will see our City Council meeting on Tuesday (July 12) and Halton Regional Council meeting on Wednesday (July 13) -- both of which you can watch a live webcast of on the day. Head to burlington.ca and halton.ca for more.My full weekly update for July 11-17, 2022 can be found here: Mayor's Weekly Public Update July 11-17, 2022.Have a great week!~ Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
