Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: June 27-July 3, 2022
Good morning Burlington,Last Friday, the new Ontario Cabinet and MPPs were sworn-in. Click here for the Province's news release for more details. Congratulations to our Burlington MPPs Effie Triantafilopoulos (Oakville North-Burlington), Natalie Pierre (Burlington) and Parm Gill (Milton - who was also appointed Minister of Red Tape Reduction) on being sworn in today. And congratulations, as well, to MPP Steve Clark on his reappointment to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing. We look forward to continuing to work with them all to advance the City of Burlington’s priorities.July's Standing Committee Week is next week and the agendas are already out -- you can view them all at burlington.ca/calendar.This Friday is Canada Day (July 1) and festivities return in-person at Spencer Smith Park. Click here for the City of Burlington news release for more details on what events will be taking place. It’s wonderful to be able to return to in-person celebrations after the past couple years. Your resilience and strength got us here, and it's time again for us to connect together as a community like we used to.While we will celebrate everything we love about Canada, it’s also important we take the time to reflect and remain aware that not everyone across our country has been able to enjoy the privileges of living here. We cannot let the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at former residential school sites be forgotten. We must be honest about Canada’s past and the mistreatment of Indigenous communities and continue to encourage all levels of government to forge reconciliation and positive relationships – I believe that is what it truly means to be Canadian, to continually strive to make our country a better place for every single person to thrive. The City of Burlington continues to be committed to this - by taking actions that help us unite as Burlingtonians. So, on Canada Day, let’s celebrate all the diversity that contributes to the rich culture in Canada. My full weekly update for June 27-July 3, 2022 can be found here: Mayor's Weekly Public Update June 27-July 3 2022.Have a great week!~ Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
