Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: May 23-29, 2022

Good morning Burlington,I know Saturday's intense storm created challenges we were not expecting this weekend from hydro outages to a lot of tree and debris clean-up. I want to thank all those who worked hard on their holiday weekend to clear streets and sidewalks from trees and debris and get power back to our residents, from Burlington Hydro crews to city staff from our roads teams to the many tree companies who were also involved. At its worst point, 22,000 customers were without power and by last night Hydro was working on the final (30-60) homes. If you are struggling with lost refrigerated food from the power outage please remember our amazing food support organizations Food for Life (fresh produce is their specialty) and the Burlington Food Bank if you need help replenishing what you lost, especially given the rising cost of food.I also hope you were able to enjoy some time with friends and family over the long weekend. We saw some beautiful sunshine and warmer weather, and I know none of us are taking for granted our ability to gather together with less restrictions and limitations this year. Patio season is definitely here so make some reservations at your favourite restaurants and help them on their road to recovery after facing so many challenges the past 2 years. The "Taste of Japan" program is still going on all month as part of Taste of Burlington - check out more information here.My full weekly update for May 23-29, 2022 can be found here: Mayors Weekly External Update May 23-29 2022Have a great week!~ Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
