Mayor Meed Ward’s Weekly Update: November 9-15, 2020

I hope you all enjoyed the gorgeous weather we were treated to this weekend. I saw so many people out for runs, bike rides, and walking along the lakefront together. It was a great time to get some yardwork done and I know more than a few people got an early start on their exterior holiday decorating. Many of us have friends and family in the U.S., and they certainly had a very exciting weekend with their election results and announcements. I know we are all wishing them well as the democratic process continues to unfold in the weeks and months ahead. Here at home, we have seen COVID-19 numbers continue to rise in Halton, with particularly notable increases in nearby Oakville and Milton in the past few days. You can stay up-to-date each day on Halton’s case numbers on the Region’s COVID-19 website here and click on the Burlington tab in the dashboard to see our own numbers. With the Province's revised framework announced last week, Burlington will be prepared to act if we are required to move into another phase of restrictions as part of Halton Region in order to help mitigate the spread of this tenacious virus.  Last week we were in the "PROTECT" stage, while hotspots like Toronto and Peel were in "RESTRICT". You can read more about the framework here including the numbers and metrics that are evaluated when moving regions from one stage to another. Our Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hamidah Meghani, and the province's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. David Williams, will - as always - contribute to the decision that will ultimately be made by the Province. This week's update includes Remembrance Day events along with three committee meetings here at City Hall - read the full details here: Mayors Weekly Public Update Nov 9-15 2020Have a safe and healthy week everyone. Stay vigilant, flexible and kind as we continue to fight this pandemic together.
