Mayor’s Monday Mailbag – Aug. 23, 2021 – What are the Hours of Operation for Construction?
Welcome to the Mayor’s Monday Mailbag, an initiative Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and the Mayor’s Office has launched to share weekly answers to questions from the public we’ve received through our main email inbox at mayor@burlington.ca or the Mayor’s social media platforms. At the end of the month, we’ll publish a roundup of those most pressing questions we’ve received in the weeks prior.
Mayor’s Monday Mailbag – Aug. 23, 2021QUESTION:“It seems like there's non-stop construction noise all the time now. What are the hours of operation for construction?”ANSWER:The City of Burlington’s Nuisance and Noise Bylaw permits the operation of construction equipment between 7 a.m.-7 p.m., seven days a week including statutory holidays.Further, the Government of Ontario has extended construction hours during the COVID-19 pandemic from 6 a.m.–10 p.m., seven days a week (including statutory holidays). Construction related to the healthcare sector is permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This Provincial Regulation is in effect until Oct. 7, 2021, where it will likely be revisited by the Province at that time. With that in mind, the decision to not work on Sundays can be one taken by individual developers and contractors, and is not required by either the City of Burlington or Province of Ontario.RELATED LINKS:
