*Please see below a media release issued by the City of Burlington.Burlington, Ont.—Sept. 15, 2020 — Construction is now complete, and Angela Coughlan Pool will re-open on Monday, Sept. 21, with a reduced selection of programming due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The renovation project which began in March 2019, provided important and necessary repairs and upgrades to the facility. The result is a more efficient, up-to-date and modern pool facility that includes the following:
- Partial pool deck replacement around the lap-pool
- Retiling of the lap-pool deck
- Lap-pool tank repairs
- New HVAC and upgraded dehumidification system
- New LED lighting
- Plumbing improvements
- Introduction of a new universal changeroom.
To help kick-off the re-opening, swimming will be free on Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27. New protocols and reduced capacity will be in place to meet public health and provincial guidelines. Pre-registration is required through burlington.ca/fall.
"The renovated facility is beautiful and ready for programming. Completion of the renovation is perfect timing as I am sure everyone will be excited to get back into Angela Coughlan Pool when it opens for the fall season. The new universal changeroom also means it is much more family friendly." -- Chris Glenn, Director of Recreation Services, City of Burlington
Universal ChangeroomThe City of Burlington is working towards providing equal rights, respect and dignity through access and privacy. The new inclusive change space provides fully private change and/or shower areas for all, removing the need to have designated “Men’s” or “Women’s” changerooms, including:
- Fully private change and shower areas with seating and hooks for hanging personal items
- Common areas open to everyone where clothing is mandatory.
The inclusive change space is designed to allow for clear sight-lines down all the isles from the pool deck as well as from the community centre hallway for maximum safety. The result will do away with the traditional open changeroom concept. All changing will happen in one of the 31 private stalls. All common areas are clothing-mandatory.Previously, Angela Coughlan had 10 private change stalls split between both the men’s and women’s changerooms. There are now 31 private change rooms.Angela Coughlan Pool renos virtual tour (click link to watch video)A virtual tour is available for viewing at burlington.ca/coughlanreno.Virtual Re-Opening Ceremony A virtual re-opening ceremony will take place online, on Monday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. The opening ceremony will include Mayor Marianne Meed Ward, Ward 3 City and Regional Councillor Rory Nisan, Chris Glenn, Director of Recreation Services, and Heather Kress, Supervisor of Aquatics.
