Nominations open for Burlington's Best Awards

Do you know someone who has made a difference in the community and contributed to the environment or local arts, heritage or accessibility? Consider nominating an individual or organization for a Burlington's Best Award to shine a light on their accomplishments.
The Burlington's Best Awards annual program honours the city's most outstanding citizens with the winners in each of the eight categories revealed at a celebration in May.
"The nomination form is the nominee's story," says Calah Brooks, chair of the Burlington's Best Committee. "Tell us how they have achieved positive change in our community. The more detail and examples, the better. City staff are happy to help and provided tips on what makes an effective nomination form and there are tips posted online."
Nominations for the awards, which were formerly known as the Civic Recognition Awards, are now open until Feb. 28.
The categories include:
- Citizen of the Year -- a person whose volunteer efforts made a significant and sustained contribution to the vibrancy and well-being of the Burlington community in 2018;
- Junior Citizen of the Year -- a youth, aged between 14-18 years, who has made a significant contribution to the Burlington community in 2018;
- Senior Person of the Year -- a person aged 55 years or older, who has advocated on behalf of seniors and/or made a significant contribution to the Burlington community in 2018;

"I know our city is filled with many great, hard-working and caring individuals and groups — I see and hear from them every day. Please take the time to nominate someone and show them, and other Burlington residents, how much they have positively influenced our city and their community. After all, the biggest influences and successes always come from those who care and those who are brave enough to act."
