October marks several causes and organizations that members of our city and community are connected to and support -- we'd like to bring awareness and recognition to some of them.Autism Awareness MonthAutism Awareness Month in Canada looks to spread information on the features and social effects of autism and educate Canadians on acceptance. The aim is to create a more inclusive Canada and to teach one another to be understanding and kind. In October, take the opportunity to learn more about autism and how to support people living with autism, and their families and caregivers. For more information and/or resources, please visit autismspeaks.caBreast Cancer Awareness MonthBreast Cancer Awareness Month is recognized in order to support people living with breast cancer, and to work together to create a better future. This campaign also encourages women to take control of their health and talk to their providers about early detection measures like regularly screenings with mammograms. The City of Burlington encourages all of our residents to educate themselves on breast cancer, and recognize the strong women in our community who are battling this disease. Libraries aren’t just place to borrow books; they’re community hubs, promote cultural awareness, provide educational programs, and help people of all ages explore their creativity. Burlington boasts several incredible libraries across our city and encourage everyone to drop by and see for themselves everything that their local libraries have to offer them. It’s always best to get your car checked before the temperature drops and make sure your car is running smoothly and efficiently. October is the perfect time to make sure and small or big auto problems are fixed ahead of the first snowfall. Car Safety Month teaches Canadians the importance of pre-winter inspection and maintenance needs.
