Ontario’s Big City Mayors Support Province’s Plan to Expand Vaccination Rollout

Posted on Apr 8, 2021 -- The OBCM caucus applauds the Provincial government’s decision to move to a more targeted vaccination strategy and take additional steps to ensure this lockdown is the last lockdown.

The caucus met on Wednesday evening to discuss the rapidly evolving response to Ontario’s third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mayors addressed ongoing concerns from municipalities as well as emerging issues raised by Ontarians. In a continued effort to stop the spread of the virus, OBCM urges all Ontarians to continue following public health orders and safety precautions.

We support the Ontario government’s decision to vaccinate people in vulnerable work environments and in COVID-19 hotspots, including essential workers and educators. OBCM and member municipalities will continue to work with the government to expand vaccine access to all essential workplaces as vaccine supply expands. The caucus looks forward to continuing to reduce the spread of the virus and increase vaccine deployment in partnership with the federal and provincial governments as well as our local health units.As Mayors of Ontario’s 29 largest cities, we urge all Ontarians to get vaccinated when they are eligible.  OBCM knows that the key to ending COVID and lockdowns sooner is successfully delivering vaccines.
